Appennini National Forum: LIfe BEEadapt participates in the event on the 13th of December

Organized by Legambiente in collaboration with various local entities, the National Apennines’ Forum reached its sixth edition on December 13, 2024 .

This year’s event tooke place as part of the “APE TOE – Restoration of Grasslands and Forests in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines” project. Life BEEAdapt will also be discussed on this occasion.

This edition goal to has been to establish a shared agenda for the ecological and climate transition of the Apennines. It will also serve as an opportunity to present the proposed Plan for the Conservation of the Northern Apennines, developed under the APE TOE project. The Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, which is hosting the event, will showcase some of the activities undertaken in this project framework that will also benefit the Life BeeAdapt project.

A significant portion of the APE TOE Plan’s actions focuses on supporting the system of so-called “sustainability credits”, tools designed to concretize corporate climate responsibility by financing sustainable forest management and ecosystem conservation practices—already successfully implemented within the Park. Among the activities eligible for funding through this system are the “Ecosystem Services”, including the one most closely associated with the Life BeeAdapt project: pollination.

Willy Reggioni, from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, Life BeeAdapt coordinator, illustrated  how this virtuous funding mechanism can be promoted and implemented through the “Pollinator Adaptation to Climate Change Tables.” These tables are being organized with stakeholders as part of the governance activities of the project.

The APE TOE Plan has been presented and discussed in the presence of partners from both projects and the various stakeholders who contributed to drafting a new “vision” for the area’s future. This vision aligns with the Convention on the Apennines, which stipulates that territories and communities must have operational tools to implement projects consistent with global 2030 goals on climate, biodiversity, and circular bioeconomy.

The event has been held at the Museo di San Giovanni in Fivizzano (MS) on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
