BEEadapt and the LIFE projects for PAC 2023-2027

LIFE BEEadapt was presented at the event ‘The Contribution of the LIFE Program to the Environmental and Climate Priorities of the CAP 2023-2027".

LIFE BEEAdapt was represented at the event “The Contribution of the LIFE Program to the Environmental and Climate Priorities of the CAP 2023-2027.”

On Tuesday, June 11, the LIFE BEEAdapt project was showcased at the event “The Contribution of the LIFE Program to the Environmental and Climate Priorities of the CAP 2023-2027 – Focus on Pollinator and Carbon Farming Projects,” organized by the CREA Center for Policies and Bioeconomy as part of the National Rural Network Program 2014-2022 under the CREA-RRN 5.1 plan, “Support for the Implementation of the Green Architecture of the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.”

The initiative served as an opportunity for discussion among representatives from institutional, production, and environmental sectors, fostering synergies between LIFE projects of relevance to the environmental priorities of agricultural policy. These projects, focusing on pollinator protection and carbon farming—like Life BeeAdapt—aim to enhance pollinator conservation and mitigate anthropogenic impacts on them.

The Starting Context

The event is the result of a process initiated by the LIFE National Contact Point at the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE), which in recent years has focused on highlighting best practices from LIFE projects relevant to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

Moreover, the so-called “green architecture,” which refers to all agricultural practices that benefit the environment, is a key component of the CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023-2027. Through this, Italy is expected to promote the ecological transition of the agricultural, food, and forestry sectors. As a result, interventions supporting the adoption of sustainable agro-ecological practices account for about one-third of the resources allocated by the CSP for the 2023-2027 period.

In this context, the various activities planned and developed by the Life BeeAdapt project—such as green infrastructure interventions aimed at improving food availability and providing more opportunities for nesting and reproduction for pollinators, non-invasive agricultural practices, payment for pollination support measures, and the improvement of governance through the signing of “Agreements for the Adaptation of Pollinators to Climate Change”—make an important contribution to the effective implementation of the main green architecture interventions of the CSP at the national level. These include agro-climatic-environmental measures under rural development and eco-schemes, as well as additional agro-climatic-environmental policy tools operating at national and regional levels.
